Department of Life Sciences / B.Sc. Microbiology & Genetics
The Dual Major Programme in Microbiology and Genetics offers an integrated curriculum that combines the study of microorganisms with the exploration of genetic principles and mechanisms. The programme provides students with a strong foundation in microbial physiology, molecular biology and genetics, fostering an understanding of how genetic processes influence microbial function, diversity and evolution.
By bridging these two complementary disciplines, the programme equips graduates with analytical, research, and laboratory skills applicable to careers in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, environmental science and research. The B.Sc. is a three-year degree programme. However, as per the provisions of the new National Education Policy (NEP 2020), a student may continue into the fourth year and earn a B.Sc. Honours degree.
In-depth study of microbial physiology, pathogen biology, genetic variation, mutation, and molecular heredity.
Practical training in microbiological culture, antimicrobial testing, serology, immunology, and genetic typing.
Option to complete 3-year Bachelor’s or continue into 4th-year research Honours degree.
Graduates are equipped with scientific acumen, analytical competence, and practical expertise required across leading industries and research laboratories.
A structured academic pathway designed for high-impact professional careers and advanced research excellence.
