Department of Life Sciences / B.Sc. Biotechnology & Genetics
The Dual Major Programme in Biotechnology and Genetics is an interdisciplinary undergraduate programme designed to provide students with a strong foundation in both the applied and theoretical aspects of Life Sciences. It integrates the principles of biotechnology, which focus on the technological applications of biological systems, with genetics, which explores the molecular basis of heredity and variation.
This programme blends theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing students to innovate and contribute to research and industry sectors addressing global challenges. The B.Sc. is a three-year degree programme. However, as per the provisions of the new National Education Policy (NEP 2020), a student may continue into the fourth year and earn a B.Sc. Honours degree.
Integration of biotechnology principles with molecular genetics, gene expression, heredity, and recombinant DNA technology.
Practical lab experience in PCR, DNA sequencing, tissue culture, biochemical assays, and bioinformatics tools.
Flexible three-year degree with fourth-year research honours and direct post-graduate/doctoral pathways.
Graduates are equipped with scientific acumen, analytical competence, and practical expertise required across leading industries and research laboratories.
A structured academic pathway designed for high-impact professional careers and advanced research excellence.
